Headlining from Interstate we have funky new boys from
Melbourne - Labjacd, a dynamic 9 piece who are a
fusion of hip hop, Cuban salsa, Jazz and Andean Folk
music, who recently performed at the 2006 WOMADelaide.
Also from Melbourne is Sime Nugent one of
Australia's great singers/songwriters, Sime has toured
throughout Australia, Europe and America and released
nine albums. Mia Dyson joins us with her dynamic
guitar playing and extraordinary voice, currently
touring the states, she’ll be back in time for the YHA
Peace Festival. Liz Stringer, darling of the 2006
festival circuit is a melodic thunder-punch of blazing
talent and charisma.
Headlining from South Australia we have none other than
The Audreys who are experiencing an astronomical
rise to fame – they’re not quite country, not quite
folk, and not quite pop, but a dreamy mix of all of the
above. We have our very own Heather Frahn who
deals out passion, attitude and confidence and etypejazz will be there too adding some of their smooth,
stylish sophistication to the day.
Other performers for the day are Dada Nii and Damushi
Ensemble,
Gillies St School Taiko Drummers, Kaurna Plains
School, La Bomba, Nukanya Dancers,
Bhangra Impressions, The Elite Accordian
Group and a bit of comedy from Oz-star Airlines
and Sebastian Carboncini.
Peace One Day all began about 6 years ago when British
actor and filmmaker Jeremy Gilley made a documentary
about his quest for just one day of world peace. Jeremy
spent years writing letters, persuading politicians and
tirelessly filming everything he did. In 2001 the UN
Assembly declared that beginning 2002, the International
Day of Peace should be observed on the 21st of September
each year, as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence
- an invitation to all nations and people to honour a
cessation of hostilities during that day.
