LABJACD (pronounced 'lab-jacked') is a 9-piece latin
hip-hop outfit based in Melbourne drawing their
influences from everything from old school hip-hop and
jazz to Cuban salsa and even Andean folk music. The Age
newspaper described the band as "one of the best nights
of live music you're likely to find in Melbourne".
Mia started writing music at 16,
feeling for the qualities she’d long admired in roots
music: “music from the heart,” is the best way she can
describe it, “music that’s trying to be honest. Genuine
music.”
Mia's latest album Parking Lots
was recorded by co-producer Lloyd Barratt and mixed by
internationally acclaimed producer Nick Launay (Lou
Reed, Nick Cave, Silverchair) Parking Lots delves into
raw, impassioned territory. It launches from a rock
solid ground of roots influences, with wild songs of
love, devotion, gratitude and dispossession. There is a
sense from the album’s opener ‘Roll Me Out’ that one is
in assured hands, Mia Dyson has arrived.
Hand picked from the pack by touring circuit staple, Mia Dyson, Liz was
recently secured for a national tour with the Aria award winner. In
addition she has performed glowing supports with other indie
dignitaries such as Jen Cloher & the Endless Sea, Ash Grunwald &
Jess McAvoy, and is now much sort after on the national music
festival cicuit.
Her innate musicality merged with a true storytellers soul, makes
for a truly powerful and unique performance, and leaves the listener
with a feeling of having uncovered an emerging artist of
significance. A passionate advocate of independent music, Liz’s has
recorded and produced “Soon” A truly exceptional independent
release. Amazingly & without label backing, Liz has a ground swell
of interest within the independent and greater music industry, and
in an ocean of mediocre singer/songwriters, Liz is the
quintessential breath of fresh air.
A difficult genre to place, she has seamlessly fused folk, blues, and
bluegrass in the most gentle of recordings that packs dynamite when
the mood calls for it.— Sam Fell, Inpress Magazine
